What Is Football?

Sports

There are a variety of sports that are enjoyed across the globe. However, there is one sport that stands out from the rest and that is football. It is an outdoor game that is played by two teams.

In a typical football match, there are eleven players on each team. The goal of each team is to kick the ball into the opposing team’s goal. If the ball is kicked through the goal, the team wins.

Football is a highly competitive and popular sport. Each team has to work hard to advance the ball down the field. Depending on the level of play, there may be many different rules.

Players are encouraged to be physical, but the goal is to keep contact limited. Huge defenders can lay bone-crushing hits on opponents.

A referee oversees the game and makes all the final decisions. He is assisted by two assistant referees. Most high-level games have a fourth official.

The National Football League (NFL) is the largest spectator sport in the United States. Fans watch the games until late at night. Many stadiums sell out every week. Several top-level leagues feature superstar players.

The NFL is home to some of the best athletes in the world. Every game is a chance for a team to qualify for the Super Bowl.

The sport is governed by the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). Agents are allowed to represent their players, but all must be licensed and pass written examinations conducted by national associations.
